When:
Saturday, June 30th from 3:30pm to 5:30pm

Where:
Westin Hotel 210 Peachtree St · Atlanta, Georgia 30303
7th Floor, Atlanta Ballroom G

Workshop description:
Description: This gathering will look at the different types of of messages being used in the immigrant rights movement. In recent mobilizations there have been messages put out by well-meaning organizations that have actually gone counter to some of the work communities have been doing. We in the immigrant rights community can do better than the slogans “We are not criminals” and  “we do the jobs no one else wants to do.”

Collaborators:
Progressive Communicators Network, Colectivo Flatlander, National Network for Immigrant and Refugee Rights

Goals:
  • Examine messaging from the recent immigrant rights mobilizations: was it inclusive or divisive
  • Connect our messaging to the struggles of others: in general, linking our work to people in the criminal justice or labor movement. Approaching our messaging using a human rights framework?
  • Link  to existing campaigns or work of organizations present in the workshopvvvvv
